Health Care Reform: Where did the racism debate come from?

Racism is the true issue, not health care reform

I'm just going to jump out and state that I do not feel the need for racism to be considered in this "Health Care Reform Bill". Why is it that the Republicans think that there is a need to even go there? What is the relationship between the two? Someone, please; enlighten me.

The health care reform bill was passed for the sole purpose to make insurance more affordable by providing the largest middle class tax cut for health care in history, reducing premium costs for tens of millions of families and small business owners who are priced out of coverage today helping 32 million Americans afford health care who do not get it today – and to make coverage more affordable for 95% of Americans. To dig up bipartisan opposition, illegal immigrants, global warming. These issues should not have been in the same sentence, let alone the same article of the bill. They have nothing to do with health care reform, so why did the press have to even go there? People were obviously being racist in their views from the beginning.

There was no need to even delve into those topics, so this leads to the obvious: white republican= white racist? That is unfortunate because I am working side by side with people everyday and now I am worried that these same people have hatred towards me because of my skin color. They are not considering me to be equally intelligent and capable of the things that they are able to do. They are upset because President Obama signed the bill to give health care rights to each and every citizen of America. That is a blessing for unfortunate Americans to be able to live through terminal illnesses and are able to receive adequate care and treatment. But, the racist citizens of America, who disguise themselves under this 'Republican party" title are displaying rage and threatening lawmakers because they are angry that less fortunate, "minorities", are now given a chance for recovery and healing.

I read in the newspaper on Tuesday that members of the Republican party are anticipating November's elections to demise the Democratic party. This is genocide, which is the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group.  Harm is inflicted mentally, in this particular case, by the racist slurs, acts of violence, and threats being made throughout the country.  I hope that these issues that are rising are opening the eyes of Democrats, minorities, and everyone who aren't given an opportunity in America to ban together and unify during this time. We all need to support one another and gain from this experience. It truly is time for a change in America. I, for one, am thankful for having President Obama in office.

Persia - Excellent hub

Race has been the tool of the Republican Party ever since the signing of the civil rights act. Many people don't realize that the Republican Party was once well respected by many blacks because of their liberal views. However, when democrats pushed through the civil rights act the Republican Party became the party of race. Many racist democrats left the party and became republican. As a result the South which was democratic prior to the civil rights act changed to republican.

Such well known racist like; Ronald Reagan, Trent Lott, and Strom Thurman were at one time Democrats but changed party affiliation during or after the battle for civil rights.

I know I took the long way to make this simple point. Race and Republicans have been intertwined since civil rights.

The Voice~ Thanks a lot!

SOBF~ You broke that down very well. Thanks for the insight. I never was a fan of politics because of that. You know, I never followed politics until President Clinton, which seemed to be the most down to earth Democratic president. But, I am 36, so that is when I was old enough to understand the world. But, then when Bush came into office, a lot of things began to go through my mind. Now, with our African American President Obama, I am beginning to see the racism and how it is very existant today. Your knowledge of politics shines in your post and I hope to read some of your views in the future.
